Abstract

This paper broaches the issue of the contemporary state of architecture as ubiquitary total work of art of the digital age on a transdisciplinary meta level. Central is the definition of architecture as medial hinge. This comes about by the interwoven media or art genres architecture, film and video games. All three not only are modes to experience architecture but also pave the way for the aformentioned definition as they are all perceived by spatiotemporal and pictorial manners which also is their fundamental character. Alongside terms and theories from research fields such as media studies, game studies, film, architectural theory, image studies and philoso-phy there are references as well as direct examples, from Luhmann and Boehm to Baudrillard and Aarseth to Zumthor and Mallet-Stevens.
