Mind Control. Einleitung in den Schwerpunkt

Abstract

The term ‹mind control› can be used to describe various attempts to (covertly) influence thinking, feeling and behavior (suggestion, manipulation, indoctrination, etc.). In view of recent conspiracy narratives about alleged mind control practices by state ‹controlled› media, an examination of this topic from within media studies is overdue. The analysis of the conditions of influence is particularly relevant here – since this is based on, as this issue argues, a ‹gift of influence› that comes from the media and puts some actors and actants in a privileged position. Investigating these conditions is an urgent task, for media studies in particular.
