Recording Prints, Reading Films. Mikrofilme, amerikanische Kosmopoliten und die Entdeckung des Copyrightproblems in den 1930er Jahren

Abstract

In the 1930s a debate arises in the US about large scale microfilming of books and journals by libraries. Putting copyright issues on the agenda of research policy, the librarian and historian Robert C. Blinkley is a key figure in these debates. The discussions cover science policy, reproduction techniques as well as media and legal issues. They highlight the effects of the change from the printing press to new reproduction techniques in the context of libraries and the sciences. And they challenge copyright laws and the role of the author in the era after the printing press.
