Aufklärung und Kosmopolitismus. Ein Gegensatz?

Enlightenment and cosmopolitanism have always been in a relationship of mutual tension. In view of the political and ideological conflicts of the present, these ten- sions are strongly breaking through, especially in current debates on border policy and immigration from the Islamic world. In the face of these conflicts, most politi- cal camps refer to the Enlightenment, but only a few to cosmopolitanism. Against this background, the following essay attempts to re-read two fundamental texts on this subject in order to redefine the relationship between cosmopolitanism and Enlightenment in a contemporary way and against the backdrop of current de- bates.
