The following article reflects upon the concept of images of the future. A conceptual explication is proposed in which images of the future are considered as a special kind of fictional images. The specific difference of these fictional images lies in the intended future reference. Images of the future depict future circumstances with the claim that they are to be real at a certain point of time or at least with a certain likelihood of becoming real. The herewith raised claim of insight has to be deduced from the conditions of image-use and the claim must be indicated to the observer within the communicative process.
