Only since the mid-1990s, Image Science is seen as a discipline that goes beyond the borders of Art History and that is scientifically concerned with all aspects of dealing with images and related systems of representation and signs. The following ideas are concerned with image science as an attempt to establish a scientific field, that hopefully will embody a modern idea of what an established discipline can be. A central criterion for what is meant by „new” here, is its interdisciplinary nature and therefore its multitude of methods. The question has therefore to be answered of how the different disciplines are related and especially how the different methods interact with each other. According to the subject of Image Science, this contribution will try to visualise (at least partly) the relationship between the different parent disciplines.
