Computerspiele und ökonomische Modellformen Auf dem Weg zu transformationskritischen Medien

Abstract

This essay explores how different forms of economic models relate to certain forms of computer games. Starting from a novel and interdisciplinary cooperation between cultural media studies and (heterodox) economics that is intended to be deepened in the future, it develops novel perspectives on the possible role of computer games and simulations in processes of social transformation. Analysing the systematic differentiation of computer game worlds as proposed by Claus Pias, it discusses the extent to which simulation might develop into an experimental medium for collectivizing societal utopias that would thus also become a venue for political-economic hegemonic conflicts.
