Article:
Was sind Medien kollektiver Intelligenz? Eine Diskussion

Abstract

Ensuing from the spread of the term ‹collective intelligence› in the current discussion of Social Media and Web 2.0, the paper discusses the relationship of ‹media›, ‹collectivity›, and ‹intelligence›. Is collective intelligence a result of intentional and coordinated action or an effect emerging in media-based production processes? Are media of collective intelligence procedural and ephemeral or can they be clearly defined as phenomena? Are they only resulting from the Internet or can their origin be traced back into media history? Five authors formulate quite different views in response to these questions and thereby document the disunity and open-endedness of the object of investigation.
