Abstract

Recently, media studies have been increasingly turning to issues of political theory – and current developments have made the matters of the political even more urgent and suggested them as matters of a political media theory. How can media studies approach these issues and where lie the limits of their approaches? On the one hand these questions are closely linked to those of science policy and its incentives and restraints, questions that involve the development and the conceptions of a new academic discipline. On the other hand it has to be discussed how the approaches and concerns of media theory relate to those of recent political philosophy.
