Kräftespiel. Zur Dissymmetrie von Schall und Wahrnehmung

The article discusses the relation between acoustics, perception and New Music, taking works of Arnold Schoenberg and Gérard Grisey as examples. Hermann von Helmholtzes experimental synthesis of Sounds with sine tones is the initiation point for new forms of composition, in which the physiological, media-technical and historical formations of the ear become issues of the composition itself. Those works liberate a play of forces inside the sound material, that cannot be sufficiently described in terms of sound and musical form. The core of those works can only be grasped as resualt of an investigation of historical mediatechnical and experimental studies of sound and Perception.
