Abstract

The text discusses the relationship between theory and practice in media studies, in particular the problematic dichotomy in traditional teaching approaches. It presents the experiences of the Potsdam cooperation programme «European Media Studies», which understands practice and theory as reciprocal, productive relationships that go beyond a purely reductive juxtaposition. The authors argue in favour of an integrated approach in which theoretical work itself is understood as practice, and media-practical methods enrich the theory.
