Medienökologie – Zu einer Ethik des Mediengebrauchs

Author(s): Rothe, Katja

Abstract

Media ecology is a profoundly ethical concept which aims at the common design of media environments. Media ecological positions always have to situate themselves in the ambivalent and ambiguous field of responsible behavior. Media ecologies should therefore not only analyze and historicize the discourses of science and technology, but also take seriously the structure of promise and hope for the Ethical that characterizes the ecological. Media ecology could be an attempt to promote ethical thinking in media studies. This ethical is not to be understood as a disposition or ethical awareness, but as a posthuman ethical that deals with the usages und practices of media. In this sense, the article explores whether local, situated practice of media usage could be described in terms of media ecological ethics.
