Article: Versuch über Straßenverkehrslärm und seine Dämpfung
Abstract
The essay explores the specific sound of passing motor cars on streets. The study focuses on how this phenomenon is defined, objectified and controlled through the term ‹noise›. From the first experiment on the acoustic Doppler effect (Buijs Ballot) to recent regulations for emission control, the text discusses how ‹Dämpfung› (absorption) works in the broadest sense. Examples are the sound absorption of car exhaust, noise barriers and the European Tyre Label.
