Cat Content. Zur Intimität der Mensch-Haustier-Beziehung in digitalen Medien

Author(s): Bolinski, Ina

Abstract

As a cultural phenomenon, so-called cat content has received more and more attention. The incalculability that goes with the performance of cats in the internet multiplies the agency of animal protagonists as well as the ascription of characteristics to an independent actor within a network. The agency of animals is revealed in the togetherness of animals and technology. It is common to all forms of cat content that the emotional proximity between human and house pet is provoked by a common language of description: cuteness, funniness, sweetness. The intimacy of this type of relationship between human and house pet is thus an effect of technological mediation.
