Article: Selbstverpflichtung ohne Überregulierung
Abstract
«Breathlessly through the night» or from one contract to the next, unemployed phases or career end: Freedom of research entails for so-called young academics, above all in Germany, freedom from a predictable career path. That is for many reasons unavoidable, insofar as numerically and with a view to the quality of research and teaching not every PhD can get a professorship. Yet: What is quality, and above all: How might life paths nonetheless be formed? How are they to be shaped in greater autonomy from professors who play the roles of both dissertation advisors and employers? - A continuation of the debate from the Journal of Media Studies No. 14 (1/2016) with essays by Beate Ochsner and Andrea B. Braidt, an interview by Andrea Seier with Maja Figge and Guido Kirsten, a text by Eva Hohenberger as well as an interview by Wolfgang Fuhrmann with Julia Zutavern.
