Zum Unheimlichen von Baudrys Begriff des filmischen Realitätseindrucks

Taking current discussions in media studies about phenomena of immersion as its point of departure, this contribution provides a new understanding of Baudry's psychoanalytic concept of the impression of reality in the cinema. The article focuses on wordings which are rather inconsistent with the literal concept of a symbiosis between the spectator and film. It interprets such inconsistencies as staging the uncanny. From a psychoanalytic perspective, this interpretation also leads to a central ambivalence present in the various relationships between subjects and immersion techniques as they are perceived by media studies approaches.
