Diffraktion statt Reflexion. Zu Donna Haraways Konzept des situierten Wissens

Abstract

Situated knowledge is, according to Haraway, a complex construction: Every objectification should be considered – following Whitehead – as an abstraction. Positioning as knowledge constituting practice on the other hand means co-relating, which in the image of the network connects two lines of tradition Haraway refers to: the history of technosciences, their apparatuses and metaphors and the history of a philosophy of processes in which the reality of the world is constituted by relations. What figure could better symbolize this than the one of diffraction which Haraway chooses to describe her method? Diffraction is like reflection an optical metaphor. Yet, in contrast to reflection, diffraction neither refers to the metaphor of the mirror nor does it go along with the model of original and copy. Diffraction is about a heterogeneous history and about the resentfulness and binding chraracter of events, which have always already happened elsewhere.
