In their introduction to the special issue, editors Peters and Schüttpelz sketch the common threads of the five contributions in light of recent developments in the social theory, media studies, and the social sciences writ large. At the heart of all the contributions is an interest in media as infrastructural accomplishments that take place in negotiation between social practices and institutional pressures. The editors urge a fresh look at social theory as a source for both rereading classic initiatives in media studies and as a rubric for emergent areas of interest as well.
