Abstract

This article deals with the sociotechnical ensemble of social media content moderation and inquires in particular into the special status of the digital image. Since the machine-readability of the digital image is still limited to specific IoT applications and digital tools of image-classification, the article investigates how the moderation of pictorial content is distributed between human and non-human actors under currently implemented platform policies.
