Von der Arbeit am Film. Die österreichische Amateurfilmkultur der Zwischenkriegszeit

Long-neglected «substandard» films, the «small gauge» films of amateurs, have meanwhile become legitimate objects of research in film and cultural studies. Such amateur films are synonymous with recording and producing leisure time. This article pursues the question of work as the alleged antipode of leisure in amateur cinematography: Does Austrian amateur cine culture of the interwar period address or implement (wage)work as a class-determining factor? Because the cultural practices of cine club members are obviously distinct from home moviemaking, this article explores amateur film culture against the backdrop of this internal differentiation.
