Abstract

For Marlene Streeruwitz, the entanglement of questions regarding class and gender is crucial: both in her development of the topics of precarity, neoliberalism, and «Austrianness», as well as in her method, namely the «deconstruction of entertainment products», which engages reflexively with cultural techniques of media, such as the bourgeois novel, the bourgeois drama, or the Dirndl. In this interview with Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky, the author and director describes the way in which her own biography – but also the relation of media (novelette), institutions (Salzburg Festival), and persons (selfmademan) – is interlaced with «languages of class».
