This metaethnographic article shows that methodological reflections in both the field of Media Industry Studies and Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology provide useful precedents for ethnographic production studies. They can be used to analyse the German television industry, as insights into fieldwork of the project »Writing Series: The Occupational Culture of Present-Day German Televised Entertainment « and initial results, especially on the writing of telenovelas and daily soaps, evince. Furthermore, the article asks in what way Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology with its ethnographic methods of participant observation and qualitative interviews can be prolific for the field of Media Industry Studies. The article closes with some thoughts on the challenges of ethnographic writing.
