Wege und Ziele. Die unstete Methodik der Medienwissenschaft

Abstract

In recent years, methodological questions have repeatedly arisen in different contexts of the discipline – both as an expectation articulated by institutions and external funders that the discipline’s methodological principles be explicated, and in the context of engagement internal to the discipline with digital processes. The contribution by Christoph Engemann, Till A. Heilmann, and Florian Sprenger that opens this debate situates the current location of these challenges within two contexts: the current academic-political situation and strategic research position of the discipline, on the one hand; and the transformation of objects of media studies in the face of digital cultures, on the other. It calls for a debate on the preconditions of the question of methodology and the answers the discipline can provide instead of an inventory of media studies methods, and on current research and funding policy.
