Book: Eine ideologiekritische Betrachtung des westlichen Netzoptimismus am Beispiel des Arabischen Frühlings
Abstract
The present thesis traces the distribution of netoptimistic theories in the western World until the rebellions of the Arab Spring in December 2010 and examines the medial response to the unexpected and for many observers disappointing outcome of the revolutionary movement. It will be shown separately how the long-held hope in the democratizing potential of digital networks either changed by an adjustment of potency or was completely abandoned by a revaluation of the effectiveness or direction of effect.
