Eine Historiografie von Cruising, die – sich auf die Methode der Histoire Croisée beziehend – jene ‹Störfaktoren› der Kreativarbeit gleichberechtigt einbezieht, begreift Filmproduktion als strukturell offenen Prozess. Schließlich ist der Film dann selbst als lediglich ein Artefakt seines eigenen Produktionsprozesses zu denken – als ein Artefakt, das nicht vollends stabilisierbar und nicht diskret ist.The production history of CRUISING (USA 1979) was dominated by controversies and misadventures: on the one hand, protests against a film project accused of homophobic representation of the gay scene, and on the other hand, censorship of the film’s explicit sex scenes. A historiographic approach that relies on the method of histoire croisée and considers the films «disturbing factors» as equal to its creative work analyzes the production of CRUISING as a structurally open process.
