The e-journal „IMAGE. Journal for interdisciplinary image science“ appeared for the first time in January 2005. With the present issue, „Image Science as an interdisciplinary enterprise. A definition of position“, an attempt is made to discuss some key questions concerning the status and methods of image science. As the interdisciplinary image science is still being created as a science, the present articles try to give insides into some of the theoretic positions, that still appear quite heterogeneous. For co-workers of the VIB, there is the possibility to comment on the single contributions, thereby providing a stimulus for the author to re-think their contributions.
