Book:
Weibliche Lebensentwürfe in den Filmen der französischen Regisseurin Lætitia Masson

Author(s): Puschmann, Silke

Abstract

Examining the films of the author director Lætitia Masson this scientific paper infers concepts of contemporary female life, which are put further in a social and film historical context. Thus, complex theses are developed through combining and modifying various approaches in film analysis, explicitly the formal-aesthetic. Next to references to the latest film discourse further links are established to extra-film discourses such as psycho analysis, post modernism as well as cultural and gender studies. Central to this interdisciplinary analysis are the trilogy films EN AVOIR (OU PAS) (F/1995), A VENDRE (F/1998) and LOVE ME (F/2000) forming an example of the depiction and reconstruction of social conditions and human relations in the late nineties of the 20th century. As her life concepts stand for social change and development, Lætitia Masson, being a Nouvelle Nouvelle Vague director, gives emphasis to the topics of social reliability and individual self-definition in times of freedom of choice and uncertainty.
