Eingebunden in die Geschichte eines Ortes. Mobiles interaktives Erzählen mit Augmented Reality

Abstract

Augmented Reality offers the visual superimposition of information and storytelling in form of ‹ghost images› within a real view of the physical world. The research project SPIRIT applies this technology in the development of an entertaining cultural heritage application. This paper discusses how the aspired location-based Augmented Reality experience designed in this project can be described by the concepts of immersion and presence. Technical results are still in a prototypical state with preliminary evaluation. However, a comparison can be drawn between prior visions and expectations resulting from its actual realization process. At first, the visions are described. Further, they are put into context with the notions of immersion, presence as transparency of the interface, narrative involvement and the aura of a place. Finally, the role of the concrete implementation is discussed for the vision of these experience dimensions.
