Vom Wahr-Genommenen zum Imaginären. Rezeptive Schichten des filmischen Raums

Abstract

Based on viewers‘ knowledge about reality, narrative structures and forms of cinematographic representation, significative potentials of space and area are linked to the meanings and narrative strategies of specific movies. A master space has to be constructed which incorporates physical as well as social aspects of space: formations of being-in and being-out, private and public space, specific functions and meanings of rooms and places, accessability of spaces, and so on. Filmic space is constituted as space of acting (Handlungsraum), being linked to the intentional reality of film figures. The operations of constituting space as element of filmic signification is – in realistic worlds as well as in phantastic ones – permanently combined with operations of complementing only partially represented elements (like off screen spaces) and synthesizing complex interpretations of spatial meanings from different sources (narration, psychology, social meanings, etc.).
