Abstract

The relation of visibility and invisibility is central to the functioning and the description of socio-technical ensembles (cf. the logic of blackboxing), and therefore unfolds an operational effectiveness in architectural, infrastructural, and media contexts. The paper focuses on several artistic interpretations of the topos of the ‹invisible city› in order to analyze urban architectures with respect to problems of representation and related epistemic and political questions.
